The VAT Calculator
The VAT Calculator helps you calculate the VAT to add or subtract from a price, at different rates of VAT. Value Added Tax (VAT) is charged on most goods and services purchased in the UK. Most products are charged at the standard rate of 20% but some are charged at a reduced rate of 5%, and others are exempt from any VAT charges. This VAT calculator will help you to see how much tax should be added to a price, or how much of the total price was made up by VAT.
In the June 2010 Emergency Budget, the Chancellor announced that from 4th January 2011 the standard rate of VAT will increase to 20% from 17.5%. Choose 20% in the "VAT Rate" option below to see how this affected the price of goods.
Price ex. VAT | £ 0.00 |
---|---|
VAT at 20% | £ 0.00 |
Total at 20% | £ 0.00 |
Total at 17.5% | £ 0.00 |
Difference | £ 0.00 |
How to use The VAT Calculator
It is straightforward to use The VAT Calculator to either add VAT to or subtract VAT from a price. Simply enter the price into the "Amount" field above, choose the applicable VAT rate from the "VAT" drop-down box, and use the radio buttons to decide if you want to add or subtract the VAT from the value you entered. When you've entered this information, simply click on the "Go!" button, and the calculator will display the answers.
The "Price (ex-VAT)" row shows what the value of the item was before VAT was added to it. The "VAT" row shows how much value added tax was charged on the item, and the "Total" row shows the total cost of the item.
